📋 3 types of tasks and how to use them
In GoalMap, tasks can be divided into three types based on their time and recurrence settings:
- Single-day tasks
- Recurring tasks
- Range tasks
Each type of task fits different scenarios 😊
✨ How to create them?
When creating a task, simply choose the time and recurrence options:
- Select Single-day → create a single-day task
- Select Range, with no recurrence → create a range task
- Select Range and set recurrence → create a recurring task
👉 Tip: if no time is set, the task will become an “unscheduled task” and won’t appear on the calendar.
📍 Single-day tasks
Best for one-off or time-specific tasks that need to be completed on a certain day.
Examples:
- May 17: go to the bank for an appointment
- August 28: attend a friend’s wedding
🔄 Recurring tasks
Recurring tasks are best for building habits or handling things you need to stick with over time.
Examples:
- Read for half an hour every night at 10 PM
- Go to the gym every Wednesday and Friday
- Do a budget review on the last day of each month
In GoalMap, you can set up recurrence in flexible ways:
- Every day
- Certain days of the week
- Every few days
- Multiple times per day, week, or month
- More recurrence options are available in the app
👉 Recurrence is highly flexible — the above are just common examples. For more advanced customization, see How to use custom frequency.
📅 Range tasks
Best for tasks that require multiple days to complete, often for projects or phased work.
Simply choose a start date and an end date (while keeping recurrence set to “None”), and the task will appear on your calendar and monthly view throughout that period.
Examples:
- Prepare for final exams: from May 11 to May 17, review different subjects each day
- Plan a family gathering: start two weeks ahead to arrange shopping, preparation, and invitations
🌱 Final note
Different task types help you manage your goals more flexibly in different scenarios:
- Single-day → one-off events
- Recurring → habits and routines
- Range → projects or multi-day tasks
Choose the right task type, and you’ll find that achieving your goals becomes easier and more organized ✨
